Global Tree Cafe

The Anonymous Foodie has been away for a while, and for that I apologize. Most of September was spent travelling which was a blast. It also gave me an idea to introduce two new sections on the Blog. You should see them up shortly ( if I get the time to actually put them up that is! )

Right, so back to the review. Sunday brunch with friends or family is a great way to start the day and while I have tried a number of the restaurants in the city I’ve found that with most of them there is a trade off with either the cost of the meal or the quality of the food. The Global Tree Cafe really surprised me by delivering on both fronts.

64

What’s in a name? Apparently quite a bit if you consider the new restaurant I reviewed. Christened 64, this restaurant aims to be a mix of a lounge and a resto bar. Sometimes I wonder if they gave up finding an appropriate name, deciding instead  to cleverly settle on the house number.

Finding the restaurant is a little challenging given that its on a road that leads to nowhere, and yes, finding parking is a bit of a challenge.

Aahar

Have you ever had one of those days where you feel if you looked at office food for another minute you’d reach across the counter and strangle the “chef” ? This was one of those days and before I decided to tempt fate any longer it was off to a small restaurant a friend had suggested.

Aahar is a tiny dabha that was setup to cater to a number of paying guests (P.G’s ) living in and around the BEML colony and from what I’ve heard business is never slow.

Sunny’s

This is a review that’s been long overdue. I’ve always had the fondest memories of Sunny’s and even though I’ve eaten there for over a decade it’s great food never ceases to draw me in again and again.

Though I’d like to say the “old” Sunny’s did have a certain charm that the new place seems to lack.

Umerkot

I’ve noticed that there is a glaring shortage of Indian restaurants in my reviews so far and for the first time in my life I let a blog decide where I’d eat next.

Umerkot has been around for a while and over the years I’ve resisted visiting primarily due the fact that the richness of the cuisine makes me feel extremely lethargic after a solid meal.

La Vigna

As mentioned before new restaurant concepts always draw my interest, so when news broke of the world cuisine network opening up at Indiranagar with four different cuisines on offer I felt drawn to it.

Spread over four floors this restaurant(s) offers the diner an experience ranging from the traditional Indian and Bistro Cafe to the more exotic Italian and Lebanese. The review today focuses on La Vigna, the Italian restaurant.

Delicacy

We’ve all eaten at our share of expensive restaurants, some pretentious and some not. Though occasionally we feel the need to visit something less ostentatious in the hope that it causes a smaller dent in our bank balance, and while this cost saving might be a driving factor I’ve found that its the attraction of a quaint little restaurant that drives me there.

Delicacy is a place you will only find by accident and given the fact it is on my route back home I decided to take a quick look.

Babettes

What started out as an innocent night out with friends quickly turned into a full blown fiasco( at least for the foody in me ) . The ingredients? sub-standard food, confused waiters and a restaurant that tries to be chic and fails.

As you can probably tell this is one of my harsher reviews, but as I’ve mentioned before if you charge a premium on your food you are expected to deliver on diner experience.

Chung Wah

This review starts with a disclaimer, Chinese food  isn’t my first choice when I decide to step out of the cosy confines of my house to grab a bite. However I must say my trip to China a year or so ago opened my palate up to fresh tastes that frankly even the best 5 star hotels haven’ t been able to replicate.

Right, so where was I… This review focuses on a restaurant called Chung Wah,situated at White Field which lets face it is more than a stone throw from any part of town.

The Egg Factory

Whenever I come across a new restaurant concept I have to admit it really peaks my interest. So when news broke about a restaurant that planned to only serve dishes that were egg based there was no doubt that this was something worth exploring.

Welcome to the Egg Factory, a restaurant tucked away in the recesses off St.Marks road where frankly, finding a parking space is a nightmare :)

Chilli’s Grill & Bar

Have you ever had your expectations about a restaurant built up so much that you can’t wait to get there? And then have you had the rug pulled so quickly from under your feet that you feel no pain only shock when those expectations land on its ass? Well that was my Chili’s experience.

You probably think I’m being extremely harsh on the place, and frankly I am. When a restaurant or bar charges as much as they do you have a right to have extremely high expectations.

Maiya’s

After eating at all the so called upscale restaurants there is really something to be said about appreciating good simple food, my Maiya’s experience was that in a nutshell. It’s located in a section of the city that I very rarely visit, however I am glad the opportunity to try this place out presented itself.

We had a reservation for 1:30 but in true “IST” ( Indian Standard Time ) fashion we were made to wait for over 30 minutes before a place opened up. I do not like waiting for a seat when I’m hungry, and I’m sure most of you share that sentiment. However, the fact that there was a huge waiting line did increase my expectations of the restaurant.

Little Italy

Little Italy has been around for quite a while and was a huge boon to vegetarians across the city when it opened for the first time in Indiranagar. The location, on 100ft road,  is great  however this review does not focus on that outlet but  the Whitefield one. Though they both share the same name I thought it might be better to review them independently given how vastly different their clientele and decor is.

This review isn’t as exhaustive as I’d like but it should give you a decent idea of what you could expect when you pop in there.

Lazeez

Ahh, Lazeez… it does bring back fond memories of when I couldn’t afford to eat at expensive places. The good thing about this restaurant is that nothing has changed, and the bad thing is well….. nothing has changed.

Located in three small setups across two locations in the city ( Koramangala and Commercial Street ) this little shop churns out some truly heart stopping non-vegetarian dishes.

The Hard Rock Cafe

After having spent years looking for a rock pub in Bangalore that has great food, drinks and ambience i must say the Hard Rock Cafe has grabbed the top spot in my list of favorites. When it first opened up i remembered thinking that they were rather expensive, however over time as I’ve gotten used to the massive price hike in a number of the pubs and lounges I’ve realized they offer the best value for money.

This review is rather wordy as I’ve literally tried to list out almost everything on their menu, and if you’ve ever been there you know its quite a bit !

Mast Kalandar

If you are in the mood for some Indian food you really do need to check out Mast Kalandar, and while it does fall under the category of a fast food joint it feels more like a restaurant.

Before you decide to go here, or order if you are exceptionally lazy like I am,  I would like to warn you that they only serve vegetarian food. Its good but if you are a die hard non-vegetarian you are setting yourself up for disappointment.

TGI Friday’s

TGI Friday’s is perfectly located to indulge in that late evening drink right after work. After all it is located at the junction of Airport Road, Indiranagar and the Inner Ring Road.

The biggest draw of TGIF is of course their happy hours which doubles the drinks you order for free!! The only drawback of this is you need to place your order before 8:30 PM. I guess that would explain the headlong dash to the pub the moment work lets up :)

  • About
I've been an avid Foodie ever since i can remember, whether it was enjoying something my Grand Mother rustled up in the kitchen, eating at a five star hotel or at a corner Dhaba. This Blog was started as a means of discussing with you, the reader, my experiences at these very restaurants and watering holes across the city of Bangalore. Over time I plan to include information on alcohol and travel destinations as well.
