What’s in a name? Apparently quite a bit if you consider the new restaurant I reviewed. Christened 64, this restaurant aims to be a mix of a lounge and a resto bar. Sometimes I wonder if they gave up finding an appropriate name, deciding instead to cleverly settle on the house number.
Finding the restaurant is a little challenging given that its on a road that leads to nowhere, and yes, finding parking is a bit of a challenge.
The Experience:
The restaurant has been established in what is most certainly an old house. The walk up to the actual restaurant is far from chic though that changes once you’ve stepped through the door. Their use of wood and glass is rather appealing, and I would recommend sitting at the front of the house. There is a smoking section upstairs if you’re interested.
The last time I visited the front door was actually shut! rather amusing I thought.
To Drink:
They have a decent selection of drinks and the bartender is quite eager to please which is a big plus. They aren’t stingy with the quantity of their alcohol which is nice.
I was extremely surprised to notice that the their drinks are very reasonably priced. They have a list of the regular cocktails including an extremely chocolate Irish one if you lean that way.
To Eat:
Most of the food on their menu does sound appetizing , so if you do spend a lot of time confused over what to order this menu won’t really help.
Amongst the starters I would highly recommend the garlic tossed prawns and the lamb teriyaki. The prawns are cooked perfectly, soft and juicy on the inside , crisp on the outside. The lamb is soft and tender and goes briliantly with the teriyaki sauce.
Once you get to the main course you do have a list of options to choose from however after having tried four different dishes I can safely say that while the food is decent the highlight would have to be the starters.
The Lamb chops with rice are nice but the quality of meat wasn’t great, the same with the veal cuts and chicken in sauce ( their sauces for some reason seem very similar ).
The one thing i’d advise is not ordering the rice, as a side its far from perfect and a little too dry. I ended up asking them to bring me a jacket potato ( and yes, they really ought to have sour cream ).
Finishing Up:
They don’t have a desert menu and from what I can gather the occasional chocolate dish isn’t very good.
The Fine Print:
Type : Restaurant and Lounge
Meal Details: Lunch and Dinner
Alcohol? : No
Meal for 2: A “meal” for 2 would set you back around Rs 1000
Cards? : Yes
Gripes:
The quality of their food is very inconsistent and I would avoid ordering their rice. Their lack of a desert menu is something that needs to be rectified quickly.
