This is a review that’s been long overdue. I’ve always had the fondest memories of Sunny’s and even though I’ve eaten there for over a decade it’s great food never ceases to draw me in again and again.

Though I’d like to say the “old” Sunny’s did have a certain charm that the new place seems to lack.

The Experience:

Location is everything and the restaurant couldn’t have picked a better place to settle into. Its a good thing they have valet parking since finding parking during a weekend would be next to impossible on the always crowded road.

The restaurant is split into two levels, the traditional sit down style located at the ground floor ( you have the option of sitting outside as well - beware the road noise and the smell of the sewer ) and the more chic lounge upstairs. If you want to listen to good music, “lounge” around and have a couple of drinks head upstairs right away. This section fills up just as quickly, and if its a weekend you’ll be away from noise that large family gatherings bring ( yes, I’ve contributed to those as well :) )

To Drink:

They have a full service bar with a wide range of cocktails and hard liquor to choose from. Their wine list is pretty decent as well. The bartenders are pretty competent and most of the cocktails come out rather nicely.

To Eat:

Over the years I’ve tried almost everything on their menu , and I’ve never had a problem with any dish ( so far ). However I have heard from a few people that the food wasn’t great at times.

Their hot bread with herbal butter is brilliant to start with but over the last few years I haven’t enjoyed it as much, It doesn’t taste quite as fresh as it used to.

I would certainly recommend the sunny salad ( greens with a orange zest sauce ) . It’sa great way to freshen your palate before you bring on the heavy main course. There is of course a whole lot more to choose from but I’m a creature of habit when it comes to the sunny salad.

Another favourite of course is the salmon and cheese rolls…

Jumping into the main course….

If you are a meat eater you have to try their Filet Mignon which is soft and tender, the lamb chops are brilliant as well. For the fish eaters the sear fish Anna is a no brainer ( fish in a white sauce with sun dried tomatoes for that perfect burst of flavour when you least expect it ) or the salmon ( for those more “fish” inclined :) )

I’m not a big fan of chicken but they do have a list of chicken based dishes to choose from that should satisfy your craving.

Finishing Up:

They have some of the best deserts in town so don’t be shy, order seconds!! ( the chocolate mousse, cheese cake.. the list is endless, if only your stomach was )

The Fine Print:

Gripes:

I've been an avid Foodie ever since i can remember, whether it was enjoying something my Grand Mother rustled up in the kitchen, eating at a five star hotel or at a corner Dhaba. This Blog was started as a means of discussing with you, the reader, my experiences at these very restaurants and watering holes across the city of Bangalore. Over time I plan to include information on alcohol and travel destinations as well.
