Before you say it let me, I know this is yet another expensive upscale restaurant I’ve visited in a relatively short period of time, though I will say this in my defense. It was a quick stop before catching a rather lengthy Harry Potter movie that I now completely regret watching.
The Park has always been known for the great quality of food and the high prices they come with ( as is the case with most 5 star hotels ). Italia has always been one of my favourite Italian restaurants and I hope to review it soon ( yes, I’ll toss in a few Dhaba’s before I get there
)
The Experience:
The Park isn’t much of a hotel to look at but what it lacks in 5 star decor it more than makes up with its restaurants.
Monsoon is their coffee shop which serves a mix of cuisines at prices that will give you pause. Then again, our understanding of upmarket coffee shops are restricted to the Barista’s we frequent
To Drink:
As with any coffee shop you can expect a range of smoothies, iced teas, coffees, aerated beverages with the occasional Lassi and buttermilk thrown in, though at Rs 155 per drink you feel like crying for help.
To Eat:
Given that this is an upmarket hotel you can be sure that they have a range of dishes to choose from.
You can start with the appetizers, soups and salads though given how much each of these costs you are probably better off jumping straight into the main course. Unless you’ve decided to stop in for a quick bit.
- Ceasar Salad with herb grilled chicken
- Creamy potato salad with lemon and fresh herbs
- Tom yam with prawns or chicken ( soup )
- Rasam Bonda ( at Rs245) ………… for the love of god man!!
Once you’ve put the starters behind you the main course beckons with a choice of pan Indian ( tangy tomato prawns, mangalore fish curry … and so on ) all served with steamed rice, appam or Indian Breads.
Their Pastas are rather decent ( shrimps with basil and walnut pesto, chicken sausage , smoken bacon egg and parmesan .. and more ) served with your choice of pasta ( spaghetti, penne, fusilli or farfalle ).
For more substantial fare ( i.e: more meat ) you can dig into the fish n chips, Grilled rib eye steak , the rosemary roasted chicken breast with mashed potatoes in a lovely pepper-brandy sauce… to name a few.
Their sandwiches are rather nice as well…
Finishing Up:
The range here isn’t very impressive, to cater to the Indian palette they’ve tossed in the almond and pistachio phirni, Gulab Jamun and Rasmalai. For those of you who prefer something a little more western choose between the Banoffi pie, Chocolate Mudcake, New York Cheesecake , Gelato’s or Sorbets.
The Fine Print:
Type : Cafe
Cuisine: Continental
Meal Details: All day dinning
Alcohol? : No
Meal for 2: A “meal” for 2 would set you back around Rs 2000
Cards? : Yes
Gripes:
Very expensive and while the food is good the only justification for the price is the fact that its located in a hotel.
