Sunday afternoons are meant to be spent out in the open, and with the weather being nice for the last few weeks there was no better time and so I made my way to UB City with the intention of finding a new place to eat among its range of restaurants.
The Cafe by Oakwood is a small outlet that sits on the food court adjacent to much larger restaurants and this review was to see if it could hold it’s own.
The Experience:
A lot of the ambience has to do with the way the food court has been designed leaving the restaurant or cafe to add their own subtle flavours.
As mentioned before this Cafe is tiny when compared with the surrounding restaurants and it shows. A couple of full tables and it seems very packed.
To Drink:
As with any cafe you can expect a long list of cold and hot beverages to quench your thirst.
These come in varies forms:
- Milk Shakes
- Cold Coffee
- Lassi
- Butter Milk
- Iced Tea
- Soft Drinks
- Fresh Juices
Having sampled the Iced tea I would suggest avoiding it given that they really didn’t seem to understand what a good iced tea was supposed to taste like.
Their coffee’s on the other hand are good ( not great ) and they do seem to have a wide variety. Given that they were a Cafe I would be surprised if they didn’t!
To Eat:
If you’ve dropped in to have a couple of “knick-knacks” ( short eats ) then you can choose from their appetizers ( Cheese stuffed Chilli peppers, Feta and Olive salad , Breaded Calamari Rings, Prawns in a cocktail sauce and Crab sticks with lettuce ). They also have mixed platters if you want to have a variety of options on a single plate ( Mexican, Spanish.. etc )
Jumping into the main course you are presented with a list ranging from the Vegetable Burger and Club Sandwich for the veggies to Fish n Chips, Chicken n Cheese burger, Steak Sandwich and Tuna Mayo for those of you who prefer meats ( like me
)
I would recommend trying the steak sandwich with caramelized onions as it has to be one of the nicest sandwiches I’ve had in this city in a long while. The Muffaletta Sandwich is rather decent as well.

Finishing Up:
MamaMia has setup a stall with their usual wide range of Ice Creams and Ice Cream based deserts however judging by the sundae we had I’d recommend sticking to just the plain ice cream.
They do have a Tiramisu, Kiwi Mousse Cake and Soft Centered Chocolate Pudding if you feel the need to try something other than Ice cream. I haven’t so I can’t really comment on them.
The Fine Print:
Type : Cafe
Cuisine: Continental
Meal Details: All day dinning
Alcohol? : No
Meal for 2: A “meal” for 2 would set you back around Rs 1200
Cards? : Yes
Gripes:
Over priced and the quality with some of the dishes wasn’t very good.
