As mentioned before new restaurant concepts always draw my interest, so when news broke of the world cuisine network opening up at Indiranagar with four different cuisines on offer I felt drawn to it.
Spread over four floors this restaurant(s) offers the diner an experience ranging from the traditional Indian and Bistro Cafe to the more exotic Italian and Lebanese. The review today focuses on La Vigna, the Italian restaurant.
The Experience:
You need to enter through the Bistro at the ground floor before making your way up to the first floor for the Italian Restaurant.
The ambience is nice, soft lights and curtains ensure the atmosphere is nice and comfortable. Though, I would like to mention that my friend nearly froze to death given our proximity to the icy air conditioning vent.
[flickr]photo:3684442358[/flickr]Their service is rather nice, however slow at times. I had the good fortune of having a rather pleasant waiter who knew the food and the drinks on the menu ( a big plus ).
To Drink:
Being a fan of single malts ( the good kind
) I was pleasantly surprised to note that they had a wide range ( by Bangalore restaurant standards ) of options to choose from. Starting at the Glenfiddich (12) to the more exclusive ancient reserve (18) including a Talisker and a Macallan!!
For those of you who prefer vodka you can choose between the Premiums ( Belvedere / Grey Goose ) and the Regular ( Absolut / Smirnoff ) and before you ask they do have a generous selection of other spirits as well ( dark and light )
Cocktails are aplenty and I would recommend the frozen margarita which is a particular favourite of mine. Their Mojito’s are just as nice if you prefer something less “girly”
Being an Italian restaurant there is a list of wines to choose from the always brilliant Pinot Grigio ( Italian ), Chardonnay Laroche ( French ) , Reisling ( German ) and more…
To Eat:
Right, to the important stuff… The Salad we started out with ( Insalata di Mare ) is a mixed seafood salad served with fresh greens that make for a nice start to a light meal.
If you have decided on a heavy main course ( red meats ) always ensure your starters are light. There are options for cold and hot starters if you choose not to do a salad. I would recommend the sliced beef , rocca salad for those of you with an appetite for red meat and the Smoked salmon for those who prefer fish.
They have a range of pasta’s but this is something that I skip for the more substantial main course.
The Crowned chicken breast served with black olives is exceptional as is the tenderloin steak. My only gripe with the dish is that there is no balance. The mashed potatoes are extremely heavy as are the vegetables which for some reason taste like they’ve been fried is butter !
Their pizza are however brilliant, you must order the La Vigna – which comes chicken, loads of olives, mushrooms and sundried tomatoes. This is a thin crust pizza straight from the wood oven.
Finishing Up:
Gelato and Pastries bring up the rear, not much to talk about.
