We’ve all eaten at our share of expensive restaurants, some pretentious and some not. Though occasionally we feel the need to visit something less ostentatious in the hope that it causes a smaller dent in our bank balance, and while this cost saving might be a driving factor I’ve found that its the attraction of a quaint little restaurant that drives me there.
Delicacy is a place you will only find by accident and given the fact it is on my route back home I decided to take a quick look.
The Experience:
The restaurant is tiny and I’m not exaggerating, you are barely through the front door when you find yourself at the entrance to the kitchen.
It seat about 16 people with barely enough space for the waiters to make their way around but that really lends to the charm of this hole in the wall ( if I can call it that )
[flickr]photo:3677645685[/flickr]And as you can tell the empty plate was an indication of how hungry I was
To Drink:
You will need to make to with aerated beverages or water as they don’t have much else.
To Eat:
So what’s on the menu?
Well as with any Chinese restaurant they’ve broadly segmented their menu into the following sections.
- Soups
- Dimsum
- Starters
- Main Course
- Rice / Noodles
The list of dishes to choose from in each is rather endless so I shan’t get into the details, suffice to say you get the usual range of veggie dishes with a generous helping of chicken, fish, prawn thrown in for those of you who prefer a little meat in your meal.
Being a huge fan of momo’s that was the very first thing I ordered, however while they did taste fantastic the sheen of oil present ( yes I asked for steamed momo’s not fried ) was rather surprising.
The explosive chilly sauce for the momo’s was heavenly, loaded with fresh garlic and chillies it made for a perfect addition to the steamed momos’.
The one thing that you have to be wary about is the quantity of oil used in every single dish of theirs and the spice!! If you aren’t prepared it will singe your tongue! I learnt the hard way and now always ensure the food is made with a lot less oil and spice.
What I love is their generous usage of fresh basil leaves which really adds to the flavour of the food. The quantities are very generous so the chances of you leaving feeling less than completely stuffed is slim to none.
[flickr]photo:3677658091[/flickr]If you are a fan of Thai food like I am you must try their chicken red curry and steamed rice. Loaded with fresh veggies and succulent chicken this makes for a perfect lunch.
Finishing Up:
No deserts unfortunately so you will have to make do with an ice cream from your department store or a scoop from the local ice cream parlor.
The Fine Print:
Type : Restaurant and Bar
Cuisine: Chinese and Thai
Meal Details: Lunch and Dinner
Alcohol? : No
Meal for 2: A “meal” for 2 would set you back around Rs 400
Cards? : Yes
Gripes:
Their food is extremely oily ( and spicy ) and finding seating when they are full is a challenge given their limitations.
