Bangalore on a Sunday morning is a perfect time for a drive. On this particular day the weather was so good that it prompted me to jump out of bed earlier then usual and find a cafe that could settle my craving for a good English breakfast.
A friend mentioned that La Patisserie would be a cafe worth trying and so I made a beeline to St.Marks road with my fingers crossed. I’m happy to say that the visit ended well, quite well indeed.
The Experience:
The decor is the first thing that really set the mood right, palms and wooden flooring ( the old rustic, unfinished kind ) welcomes you into the cafe.
It’s open air and when the weather is nice it has to be the only way to have breakfast on a Sunday.
To Drink:
Being a cafe you can expect a wide range of tea’s and coffee’s to accompany your meals. Being partial to tea I tend to favor the hot lemon and iced lemon teas ( depending on when I get there ). However their coffee’s are rather nice as well.
To Eat:
If you get there in the morning you must have their English breakfasts, while the sausages aren’t very good the bacon was brilliant. Let me stress again, AVOID sausage, ORDER bacon. Shoot the chef if not available.
The scrambled eggs were soft and buttery as were their omlettes, my personal favourite is the mushroom and cheese, which was cooked perfectly. If there is anything that was missing it would have been a dash of herbs.
Grilled tomatoes and hash browns finish up the sides on your plate.
The orange juice they served didn’t seem to come out of a tetra pack however it did taste like it had gone slightly bad. The only downer I experienced.
Digging into the croissants with its cheese stuffing has to be the most sinful part of the meal, my friend decided to stick with the cinnamon roll which in hindsight wasn’t probably the best side for an English breakfast. It did however make for a great after breakfast snack.
At just Rs180 this its a steal however there are other options if you prefer not having the English breakfast.
Finishing Up:
Their display case of pastries and deserts look brilliant and even though I don’t have a sweet tooth it took a lot of effort to stay away.
The Fine Print:
Type : Cafe
Cuisine: Continental
Meal Details: All Day Dinning
Alcohol? : Yes
Meal for 2: A “meal” for 2 would set you back around Rs 400
Cards? : Yes
Gripes:
Their sausages and juices need to go through quality control, apart from that a rather pleasant dinning experience. Their choice of music ( hard rock / metal ) early in the morning was a little off.
