Little Italy has been around for quite a while and was a huge boon to vegetarians across the city when it opened for the first time in Indiranagar. The location, on 100ft road,  is great  however this review does not focus on that outlet but  the Whitefield one. Though they both share the same name I thought it might be better to review them independently given how vastly different their clientele and decor is.

This review isn’t as exhaustive as I’d like but it should give you a decent idea of what you could expect when you pop in there.

The Experience:

When you have a craving for a nice thin crust authentic Italian pizza or that creamy pasta this is definitely a place that should be on your list of restaurants to visit. Unfortunately the location is such that unless you live in Whitefield or work at a company located in that general area it wouldn’t make sense to visit.

The Decor is very understated and plain, quite unlike that of the Indiranagar outlet, given the fact that it caters to a predominantly IT crowd don’t be surprised to find large gatherings of “dog-tagged” people here. You could very easily miss the entrance to the restaurant if you aren’t looking too carefully.

A note of caution however, they ONLY serve vegetarian food so if you are particular about having some seafood or meat in your meal please avoid.

To Drink:

There are a number of drinks to choose from ranging from beer to wine and the usual cocktails for those of you who’d like some alcohol with your meal and soft drinks for those of you who wouldn’t.

To Eat:

As with any good restaurant they have a range of anti-pastas ( Starters,),  Soups and Salads  to ease you into the main course.

There is also a fantastic range of Risotto, Wood burn pizza’s and Pasta’s  to choose from however, given the fact that the size of my stomach restricted me from tasting them all I had to live with just three.

The Pasta Barbaresca was quite nice however it did have a distinct Thai taste ( I have no idea why ).  Made with a creamy tomato sauce with fresh brocoli, tomatoes, garlic , parsley it made for an extremely heavy dish.

Array

The Pesto Pasta was the greenest I have ever seen, the flavours were extremely over powering and I would have difficulty in finishing an entire plate ( taking pity on my taste buds of course ) .

Array

The Pasta del fattore was quite decent, and given the fact that sundried tomatoes add to the flavour I asked to have some whole ones thrown in. What arrived was more like a sundried tomato paste, which completely ruined the texture and flavours.

Array

As with all pasta’s I would recommend a generous helping of parmesan cheese on top.

Finishing Up:

I didn’t try so I don’t know! however given the fact that the deserts at the Indiranagar outlet are rather good I should think these should be as well.

You have an option between the Tiramisu ( Sponge cake soaked in coffee with a vanilla custard ), the  Cream Caramel pudding, the  Choco Walnut Fudge with Vanilla Ice cream, a Sizzling Chocolate walnut brownie served with Vanilla Ice cream and the  Panna Cotta ( creamy pudding ).

The Fine Print:

Type : Restaurant

Cuisine: Italian

Meal Details: Lunch and Dinner

Alcohol? : Yes

Meal for 2: A “meal”  for 2 would set you back around Rs 1500

Cards? : Yes

Gripes:

Its only vegetarian!! ( as you can probably tell I’m non-vegetarian ) and yes it’s a tad expensive.

I have been to this restaurant quite often and must say it has always been consistent. The tortellini was superb and so were the desserts.

The best thing about this place - it is not crowded at all on weekends. So, you can really chill out and not bother about waiting for a table. The service is also pretty quick.

One thing I do not like: The soups are pretty tasteless and sometimes cold

A lot of people say exactly the same thing about the restaurant, btw are you talking about the whitefield or the Indiranagar branch?

I've been an avid Foodie ever since i can remember, whether it was enjoying something my Grand Mother rustled up in the kitchen, eating at a five star hotel or at a corner Dhaba. This Blog was started as a means of discussing with you, the reader, my experiences at these very restaurants and watering holes across the city of Bangalore. Over time I plan to include information on alcohol and travel destinations as well.
