If you are in the mood for some Indian food you really do need to check out Mast Kalandar, and while it does fall under the category of a fast food joint it feels more like a restaurant.
Before you decide to go here, or order if you are exceptionally lazy like I am, I would like to warn you that they only serve vegetarian food. Its good but if you are a die hard non-vegetarian you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
The Experience:
This is after all part of a large chain spread out across the city, so the restaurants are identical to a fault. Extremely clean and colorful there is a sense of freshness in a number of them. I only wish the seating was a little more comfortable.
To Drink:
While there is a nice range of Indian drinks to order i would like to warn you that the Lassi’s is extremely heavy.
- Mango Lassi
- Patiala Chaas
- Salted Maska Lassi
- Sweet Maska Lassi
- Masala Shikanjee
To Eat:
The food portions aren’t extremely filling but very adequate and you will walk away feeling just about “topped up”. The food quality is excellent and combined with their aggressive pricing definitely makes it worth the price.
The Menu is broken down into a number of sections, and one of my favorites is the curry.
- The Great India Maha Combo -Served with Paneer Curry, Daal Makhani, veggies, rice and 2 laccha paratha
- Smoked Baigan Bharta – Served with dal tadka, 2 kulche, raita, salad and chutney.
- Gourmet Saag Paneer – Served with Rajma and 2 Garlic Naan
- Halka Phulka -Served with dal tadka, veggies, rice, 3 phulkas, raita, salad and chutney.
- Balle balle pindi chole – Served with dal makhani, 2 Amritsar Kulche, raita, salad and chutney
- Sinful Punjabi Paneer – Served with dal makhani, 2 butter naans, raita, salad and chutney
- Low Cal Palak Mushroom Corn – Low Calorie. Served with daal tadka, 2 jowar rotis, raita, salad and chutney.
- Power Combo – Dal Palak Served with Veggies, Jawar Roti, Bajra Roti and Whole Wheat Roti
Truth be told my favourite part of the combo meal is the raita, which is just brilliant!
For those of you who prefer rice there are a few dishes to choose from, however i must warm you their biryani is rather spicy.
- Biryani with a twist – All Combos served with raita, salad papad and chutney
- Ram Khichri – All Combos served with raita, salad papad and chutney
- Ghantaghar ke Kadhi Chawal – All Combos served with raita, salad papad and chutney
- Tadka Daal Chawal – All Combos served with raita, salad papad and chutney
- Dilli Style Rajma Chawal – All Combos served with raita, salad papad and chutney
Finishing Up:
If you have a sweet tooth there is a small but nice selection of deserts to chose from.
- Malpua and Rabdi
- Mango Rabdi
- Gulab Jamuns
- Halwa of the season
