If you’ve been in Bangalore for while you’d understand me when I say, think steaks, think Only place. The location has changed, and so has the quality of food over the last decade or so but the one thing that hasn’t are the waiters
, and yes it is still rather dirty.
Located at the end of Museum Road is a restaurant that really hasn’t changed very much, parking is still a problem however if you are lucky you just might get a spot on the main road.
The last time I went there was while ago, and after a particularly depressing episode with what i think was a steak i decided never to revisit this restaurant. However since the point this time was to meet a couple of friends i decided it was about time i revisited this iconic restaurant.
The Experience:
Since this is a family restaurant they don’t serve any alcohol, which is tragic given how well any beverage goes with good ol red meat Yes, i’m biased!
I’ve always loved the steaks they’ve served, but as mentioned before the food quality has been steadily going downhill. Some of it is still great, don’t get me wrong. Its just that the red meat has suffered tremendously
Before i get into the food i do have to mention that their bathrooms leave a lot to be desired ( yes i managed to squeeze this into the review ) and some of their waiters work so slowly i half expect an energizer bunny to pop up to complete the ad.
Right, enough mopping and back to the review.
To Eat:
This is about food, so what do you do when you realize you can’t have the red meat? order fish! They have a decent spread of fish dishes ( think that rhymed ) .
In this particular case we ended up ordering the Grilled Fish and the Op’s Special Fish. At first i was really hoping i’d get something special. As luck would have it the “Special” fish ended up having some herbs tossed on top. So much for that!
Cribbing aside they were both quite good, and served with a side of mashed potatoes and steamed vegies we just about filled our stomachs. If you like other options read below.
- Fish Sticks
- Crumb Fried Fish
- Grilled Fish
- Spicy Fried Fish
- King Fish Steak
- Striped Sea Bass
- London Fish and Chips
- Op’s Special Fish
If you prefer digging into chicken you do have a few options to choose from which include the chicken steak, chicken paprika and the BBQ chicken. I still say order the fish!
The steak isn’t bad but if you are used to good meat in your steak i would ask you to avoid ordering it here. However, even after this brilliant piece of advice ( i’m just kidding ) you still have a craving for red meat, by all means dig right in, and while you are at it take a read through their burger menu. It’s worth a visit at least once.
So here are your options:
- Liberty Steak
- Sirloin Steak
- Delmonica Steak
- Boston Special
- Chateaubriand Mini – Supreme
- Double Filet Mignon
- Salisbury
- philly
- Vienna Steak
I realized i forgot to acknowledge the few slices of garlic bread that are served to you right at the beginning of your meal, again sadly the quality has gotten so bad you get to taste more butter than actual garlic.

While i would like to provide you with an exhaustive list of desert i’m afraid the only thing i can remember is the chocolate mousse cake and apple pie we ordered.
The mousse cake was very nice however when the put the apple pie in front of me i really thought someone had regurgitated it. My fault for requesting whipped cream instead of icecream. Still a far cry from the amazing apple pie’s they used to serve.

You beat me to a review of the ‘ol favorite, The only place !
I agree the steaks are what this place is (was ?) famous for. My fav is the sirloin which was actually quite nice the last time I went there, though I could do with a little less of the barbecue sauce “gravy”.
I ordered a steak, medium done, from the specials menu at TGIF last week. I’ve forgotten the name but it was definitely one of the better ones I’ve had in a while, or was it the alcohol ?
If you like nice (and cheesy) pastas, try the Roadtrip in Indiranagar. They have a very limited menu but I’m sure you’ll like it. They don’t serve alcohol and I’m really hoping they get their license back.
Ah! The Only Place…. It has been around in Bangalore forever….I remember saving up on pocket money when I was in school, just so that I could go there and dig into the absolutely delicious Apple Pie with cream(my personal pref).
I have to agree that the quality of the apple pie that they serve has gone down a bit since the Mota Arcade days. However, it is still amongst the best apple pies I have had till date.
If your not too much of a red meat/sea food fan, I recommend that you try the Chicken Cacciatore, Chicken Sombrero or the Fiery chicken. Yum-tous (if such a word exists)
Oh, and the chocolate cake with cream/ice cream is worth a shot too.
