Take 5 is in every sense of the word a traditional Bangalore pub however unlike a pub it has a food list that rivals most restaurants.
The cuisines they serve are broadly classified under the Continental and Chinese headers, however this review focuses only on the continental section.
Located on the second floor of what has to be a building with the widest variety of food joints in Indiranagar Take 5 is a comfortable pub to settle into, be it after a long day at the office or a lazy lunch over a weekend.
The Experience:
It’s generally pretty crowded in the evenings and getting a place is rather difficult, however it’s empty during lunch hours which is when i would recommend you grab a bite.
Ambience is well, nice , and the music sets the tone for the pub with good ol rock n roll music. The waiters are pleasant and helpful and their smoking “zone” ( a glass cube located right next to the bar ) is rather amusing.
Starters:
As is traditional with most pubs their range of starters is as long as their drink list.
If you’d like to watch what you eat there is the Cobb or Caesar salad though if you willing to stretch the calories a bit the roast chicken salad just might be up your alley.
I’m not a soup fan so i really can’t comment on their offerings but with Carrot and leek, multiple cream soups , chicken and leek to choose from I don’t think you can go wrong.
All said and done my favourite starter is the steak 5, beef pieces cut into fine sections and grilled with a ton of masala ( avoid if you have a sensitive stomach ).
Tortilla chips with salsa and dill dip makes an perfect crisp and light snack to go with your drinks.
The mushroom balls deep fried with hot sauce should do it for the vegetarians, there is of course a number of other options to choose from if you aren’t a fan of the mushroom.
Main Course:
Pastas are always a big hit and they do have a wide range from the traditional spaghetti bolognaise to the more exotic? carbonara with eggs and bacon bits.
Steak is always a big favourite and there isn’t a shortage of nice steaks you have a choice of the chicken chasseur, Chateaubriand supreme , pork steak , mixed grill with an assortment of sauces which are ( pepper, tangy red chili , mushroom, Portuguese cinnamon tomato )
Veggies have just as wide a choice.
So what did we end up eating? Well….
The Aglio Olio pasta, and for those of us who need to read the fine print to understand what it is we are ordering this is a pasta served with red chilly , golden garlic and virgin oil sprinkled with a generous helping of parmesan.
The grilled fish was perhaps my favourite dish of the afternoon, it was served with a lemon butter sauce with a hint of dill. A side of mashed potatoes and steamed veggies made up the rest of the plate. The garlic rolls served as sides were decent but not something i would ask for again.
The chicken tarragon was by far the heaviest dish of the lot, deep fried and crusted this had chicken stuffed with ham, cheese and parsley butter ( screaming heart attack ) served on a bed of mashed potatoes and some veggies in an attempt to throw in something healthy. It was tasty so i really didn’t have much to complain about.
Drinks
They have a wide range of drinks which include cocktails, mocktails, hard alcohol and wine. Their range of beers are decent and perfect for a sunny afternoon ( I’d recommend the Belgian’s ).
