I decided, after a long time, that i would revisit the 100ft Boutique restaurant in Indiranagar. I have very fond memories of the place ( yes i know, that statement does make the restaurant sound a 100 years old… not to mention me as well ) and decided it would be a safe bet for a dinner.
A friend had told me about their Wednesday night Mediterranean special which at 540 rupees seemed reasonable enough and so i decided to check it out., and that as they say is where the nightmare began.
The Experience:
Located on the 100ft main road in Indiranagar you couldn’t ask for a better location. Parking has never been a problem with Valet’s being able to manage your cars. Though it does get a little dicey when the restaurant gets a little packed.
They have three main seating areas, the patio on the outside, seating on the ground floor of the house and finally the roof top ( which has the bar ).
Right, back to the meal!
Since i got there early finding a place wasn’t too much of an issue however i had called ahead and reserved a table. As i mentioned earlier they had a special spread on Wednesday which involved a Cold and Hot set of starters ( which you could have as much of it as you wanted ), one main course and a desert.
When i first took a look at the menu i must confess i was rather impressed with the spread, it seemed like a steal given the 540 price tag.
Getting Started:
Greek Salad – Tossing cucumber pieces, old lettuce, salty dressing and a single cube of cheese do not in my opinion make a greek salad.
The Babaganou ( aubergine ) was cold and the flavours were all over the place, the roasted peppers were soggy and i’m certain they were leftovers.
The only things worth eating were the mozzarella and olives, probably because they came out of a can!
If i thought my torment to my palate had come to and end after the cold starters i was in for a rude shock with the hot. We were served an assortment of char grilled prawns ( which were old ) , lamb kibbe ( which wasn’t too bad ), chicken tzatziki ( undercooked ) , calamari ( so – so ) and the potato cheeses kibbe was inedible.
The honestly didn’t need to say we could order unlimited portions of the starters as no sane person would. I would have much preferred an expensive decent meal of limited starters instead of having sub-standard food served to us in an attempt to control their costs.
At our wits end we sent back all the food and asked for soup, we were told this was a cream of tomato soup but tasted like blended potatoes ( yes i sent this back as well )
On to the Main Course:
I feverently hoped at this stage that the main course was better than the starters though unfortunately for us that was not to be the case.
We ordered the grilled snapper with fennel salad and tomato coulis ( which i can only gather means “orange looking floating liquid” ). The fish tasted very strange and was most definitely not the way to cook a snapper, i’m a fan of the fish not the chef!
The only thing that i really liked was the bed of mashed potatoes my main course sat on!
The Lemon and thyme roasted chicken was a disaster as well with the chicken not been cooked properly. The side of couscous was extremely dry.
We send back most of the main course as well, and by this point i was really peeved. We did have fruits with ice cream and an almond pie with ice cream that wasn’t too bad.
The highlight of the evening was the drink, the margarita was brilliantly made with a generous quantity of tequila and a perfectly salted glass.
The moral of the story is avoid the Wednesday dinner special at all costs!
